Wayne State erupted for three goals in the first eight minutes of the second period and went on to beat Western Michigan , 6-3, in the consolation game of the Badger Shootout. It was the first-ever meeting between the schools in men's hockey, and pitted WSU coach Bill Wilkinson against his former team. The Warriors' win enabled them to place third in the tourney, which was held in Madison , Wisc.
